here, including game previews, recaps, opinion and much more. Be sure to check
back here for more info on the Sharks playoff run.
Season ends with 4OT Loss By Mike Lee With the
season on the line, the Sharks decided to play a couple of games before bowing
out to the Dallas Stars in their Western Conference Semi Final Series. Brendan
Morrow scored an overtime goal in the game 129th minute, the 8th longest game
in NHL history, to give the Stars a 2-1 win, and the series victory. The epic
goaltending battle finished with a combined 114 saves between San Jose's Evgeni
Nabokov and the Star's Marty Turco, but it's Turco that moves on to face
Detroit in the Conference Finals. More >>
Comeback
By Mike Lee If the Sharks were to somehow comeback from the
3-game-to-none deficit that they dug for themselves, Friday night's 3-2
comeback win in overtime will go down as the miracle on Santa Clara Street.
Trailing by 2 goals entering the 3rd period, the Sharks rallied to stun the
Dallas Stars and send the series back to Texas for a Game 6 on Sunday. Joe
Pavelski scored the biggest goal of his career just 1:05 into the extra session
to send the sellout HP Pavilion crowd into a frenzy. More

Sharks live another
day By Mike Lee With their backs to the wall, the Sharks
staved off elimination from their Western Conference Semi-Final Series with the
Dallas Stars on Wednesday night with a gritty 2-1 win at the American Airlines
Center. It was the Sharks who came back from an early deficit, scoring the game
winner in the 3rd period, to send the series back to San Jose. Sharks captain
Patrick Marleau scored his 2nd consecutive short-handed goal and Milan Michalek
scored for the 3rd consecutive game to pace the Sharks. More

Bad breaks push Sharks to
brink By Mike Lee The San Jose Sharks can't buy a break in
their Western Conference Semi-Final series with the Dallas Stars, but that
won't be an issue much longer if the bad breaks persist. San Jose let a 3rd
straight game slip through their fingers on Tuesday night, dropping a 2-1
overtime decision in Dallas. After a would-be goal was taken away, the Sharks
grabbed the lead, only to surrender that lead after taking bad penalties in the
3rd period. More

When talent just isn't
enough By Steve Flores After two games of the Western
Conference Semi-Final the San Jose Sharks find themselves in familiar
territory, very familiar! As a right of spring the Sharks are once again up
against a wall, down two games to none and have been out-hearted and
out-smarted in both games by the Dallas Stars. More
>>
Bad breaks spell doom
By Mike Lee To get through the Stanley Cup Playoffs, you need
to be good and a little lucky. The Sharks were neither on Sunday night, and as
a result they trail the Dallas Stars in their Western Conference Semi-Finals
match up 2 games to none. Missed opportunities and skating gaffs were all the
Sharks needed to seal their fate in a 5-2 loss to the Stars at HP Pavilion. The
Sharks blew a 2-1 lead in the 3rd period, suffering their worst loss in the
playoffs this spring. More >>
Stars
take Game 1 By Mike Lee So much for learning to put an
opponent away early. After surviving a 7 game nail biter of a series against
the Calgary Flames, the Sharks have managed to dig themselves into another
hole. San Jose tied the opening game of its Western Conference Semi-Final
series with the Dallas Stars late in regulation, then surrendered Brendan
Morrow goal in overtime. More >>

Flames fans are
weird...and lucky By Mike Lee What's the deal with Calgarians?
Just moments from getting bumped from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first
round, all you hear from them is logic and reason. Bantering on and on about
how subtle tweaks here and there, or how they were grateful for the performance
their team demonstrated in the playoffs. Weird, I tell you. More

Roenick's Game 7 of the
Ages By Mike Lee Jeremy Roenick came out of retirement so he
could play the type of game he played on Tuesday night. The veteran centerman
had a game for the ages with a 4-point night, scoring 2 goals to pace the
Sharks to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames in Game 7 of the Western Conference
Quarter Final series. Roenick was a juggernaut, flying all over the ice, to
dispatch the Flames in the first series 7th game in HP Pavilion history. More

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! By Steve Flores As a child I
always loved riding on roller coasters. Funny how things change when you grow
up! The San Jose Sharks Western Conference Quarter Final series with the
Calgary Flames has been every bit the thrill ride with as many ups and downs,
bumps and thrusts of an actual roller-coaster, but it definitely hasn't been an
easily enjoyable ride. Excitement in sport is a truly desirable facet of
competition. The series has been as close to a classic as an opening round
series can be. Close contests, great comebacks, excellent goaltending! More

Sharks stumble to Game
7 By Mike Lee With their backs against the wall, the Calgary
Flames responded with a gritty performance, worthy of the 2-0 shutout victory
they earned on Sunday night. Given a chance to end the series, the Sharks just
flat out failed to show up. Things just never clicked for a San Jose roster
that seemed to fight the puck at every opportunity. Former Sharks goaltender
Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside all 21 shots that he faced for his 1st shutout of
the series. More

Turning
Point By Mike Lee The team everyone thought San Jose was
bringing to the party finally showed up on Thursday night. Led by Jonathan
Cheechoo's two 3rd period goals, the Sharks grabbed a 3-goal lead, then hung on
for a 4-3 win in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in their Western Conference Quarter
Final series with the Calgary Flames. Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau also
scored for San Jose. Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 33 shots to
earn his 3rd win of the series. More >>
Dorothy, Toto or the Tin
Man? By Steve Flores It was a time of reckoning: A time of
gut-check: A barometer of heart, if you will. For the first time in San Jose
Sharks history that the boys were backed up against the proverbial wall and
came out with guile and with some punches flaring. More

New Life By
Mike Lee The playoffs are all about momentum shifts, and there was as big a
shift as they come on Tuesday night in Calgary. Trailing by a goal heading into
the 3rd period, the Sharks manufactured the tying goal on Jonathan Cheechoo's
1st goal of the playoffs with 4:54 to play, then won the game 3-2 with 9.6
seconds left in regulation on a deflection by Joe Thornton. Backed into a
corner, the Sharks played with enough desperation in the final 5 minutes to tie
the series up at 2-2. More
>>
A lot to
prove By Steve Flores The San Jose Sharks annual right of
passage is once again rearing its ugly head. After a hard fought season of
uneven and then amazing play the team is once again doing its yearly 'let's
find a truly emotional, energy sapping way to lose scenario that will top last
years' scenario! More
>>
Implosion By
Mike Lee The Sharks made a statement on Sunday night. They made it clear
that they're still a team that has playoff issues to deal with. After taking a
commanding 3-0 lead in the first 5 minutes of the game, San Jose allowed a
feisty Calgary Flames team to chip away at their lead and then knock off the
Sharks 4-3 at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Flames take a 2-1 lead in the
series after staging either one of the greatest comebacks in playoffs history,
or being the beneficiaries of one of the biggest failures. More

Happy
times! By Ken Smyth The Sharks won game two and earned a
split. The Flames won game one and earned a split. Fans in San Jose are happy,
fans in Calgary are happy or at least as happy as Canadian hockey fans can get.
Coaches Mike Keenan and Ron Wilson are not happy, but what else is new. Me? I'm
happy my taxes are done. Still, let's all remember this happy weekend when the
sun is shining in San Jose and we feel good. I hope it lasts. More

Nabokov gem evens series
up By Mike Lee The hockey gods have to be wondering why that
Warren Strelow guy is smiling so much. Strelow, the former Sharks goaltending
coach who passed away last year, had two of his disciples dual each other in
Game 2 of the Sharks Western Conference Quarter Final showdown with the Calgary
Flames on Thursday night at HP Pavilion. That dual turned into a goaltending
clinic as Evgeni Nabokov and Miikka Kiprusoff combined for 62 saves, but
Nabokov would deny the Flames from scoring en route to his sixth career playoff
shutout in the 2-0 victory. More >>
Game 2
Notes By Mike Lee The Sharks have to be concerned with the
lack of production from the power play unit through the fist two games of the
series. While the Sharks did convert on the power play on Thursday, they also
missed on 9 other chances, including an extended 5-on-3. The Flames were ranked
21st in the league on the penalty kill during the regular season with an 81.4%
kill ratio. More

Flames grab early
lead By Mike Lee Here we go again. The start of the Sharks
Western Conference quarter final series with the Calgary Flames got off to a
start reminiscent of the 2004 series that saw the Flames take the first two
games of that series in San Jose. Calgary jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, then
held off the Sharks who out-shot the Flames 39-23. Former Sharks goaltender
Miikka Kiprusoff once again stifled the Sharks, who got pucks on net, but
couldn't generate many quality scoring chances. The Sharks tentative play
prevented any serious threat to the Flames, even though a late goal pulled San
Jose to within a single goal in the 3-2 Flames win. More

Six Reasons to
Believe By Ken Smyth Want some reasons to believe the Sharks
will do well in the playoffs this year? Here's six of them. Also, to be fair to
those typically jaded, snarky, negative Bay Area sports fans I've added six
places to point the finger. You'll want to get in place early on that, if the
Sharks do a first or second round fold-up the crowd will get big, loud, and
demanding; sort of like a San Francisco protest march but with better spelling.

2nd season begins with a
test By Mike Lee And that folks is a wrap on the regular
season. Now begins the fun part. The NHL's second season is here. It's a 2
month stretch of hockey that will define the legacy of one of the 16 teams that
remain in contention for Lord Stanley's Cup. The Sharks are as poised to grab a
puck as they've ever been, but we won't know if team is for real for another
four series of hockey. Assuming they last four series that is. More >>
