| HISTORY |
McCauley was
originally drafted 79th overall in the 1995 Entry Draft by the New Jersey
Devils. On February 25, 1997, his rights were traded with Jason Smith and Steve
Sullivan to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Doug Gilmour, Dave Ellett and a
third-round draft pick. In 1997-98, Alyn joined the NHL ranks and scored 16
points as a pro rookie. In 1998-99, he scored 24 points in just 39 games as the
Maple Leafs improved 28 points in the standings to make the playoffs for the
first time in three years.
He missed the latter half of the season as
well as the playoffs with an injury. His team reached the Eastern Conference
finals before losing to the Sabres. In 1999-2000, Alyn was limited to just 45
games (ten points) as the Maple Leafs won the Northeast Division title.
He played five games in the playoffs as the team reached the second
round. In 2000-01, Alyn played 14 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs. He
then played ten playoff games as the team again reached the second round.
