HISTORY
Wayne Primeau was drafted 17th overall in the 1994 Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. On May 3, 1995, Wayne made his NHL debut with a goal in a match against the Devils' Martin Brodeur. After playing two NHL games the following season, Wayne played 45 NHL games in 1996-97 as the team improved 19 points under coach-of-the-year Ted Nolan to win the Northeast Division title.

In the playoffs, Wayne helped the Sabres reach the second round. In 1997-98, Wayne joined the Sabres full-time and scored 12 points in 69 games. In the playoffs, he helped his team reach the Eastern Conference finals before losing to the Capitals. In 1998-99, Wayne scored 13 points and knocked 74 hits. In the playoffs, he helped his team win the Prince of Wales Trophy in the Eastern Conference finals over the Maple Leafs before losing to the Stars in the Stanley Cup finals.

In 1999-2000, Wayne was traded on March 9 with Cory Sarich, Brian Holzinger and a third-round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Chris Gratton and a second-round draft pick. In 58 games between the two teams, Wayne scored 17 points and knocked 73 hits. In 2000-01, Wayne was traded on February 1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Matthew Barnaby.

In 75 games split between the two teams, he tallied 22 points and 112 hits. In the playoffs, he helped the Penguins reach the Eastern Conference finals before losing to the Penguins.
