Set the NHL rookie goal scoring record (76 goals) and point scoring record (132 points). Recorded five hat tricks his rookie season, including a four goal performance against the Minnesota North Stars. Scored his first NHL goal against Jeff Hackett and the Sharks on October 8, 1992. Was awarded the Calder Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year.

Severed his achilles tendon in January of 1994, which prematurely ended his sophomore season int he NHL. Rebounded with 22 goals in the strike shortened season of 1994-95. Finished 7th in the league in scoring in 1995-96 with 108 points and was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy.

Had his second huge season in 1996-97, scoring 51 goals and 58 assists, and was named an NHL First Team All-Star by the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Finished the season 2nd in goals, 2nd in points, 9th in assists, 8th in power play points (32), 5th in shooting percentage (18.7%), 5th in game winning goals (8), and 4th in the league in points per game (1.40).

Won the inaugural Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 1998-99, awarded to the NHL's top goal scorer. Was voted a 2nd Team All Star by the PHWA, finished 5th ni voting for the Hart Trophy, and third for the Lady Byng. Finished the season ranked 2nd in scoring (107 points), 4th in assists (60), 1st in power play goals (25), 5th in power play assists (29), and 1st in power play points (54)

Had yet another successful year in 1999-2000 scoring 33 goals and 52 assists. Finished the season ranked 5th in points (87), 16th in goals, 7th in assists, 5th in power play assists (23), and 5th in power play points (31). Recorded 22 multi-point games, including seven three point games and three four-point games.

SCOUTING REPORT
One of the most prolific goal scorers in the NHL. Will kill opponents with his speed and ability to finish. Noted for his constant movement on the ice and how difficult it is to defend him. Consider that he and Paul Kariya were Anaheim's only offense for years, and the two of them still tormented defenses when top team defensemen were assigned to cover the duo.

Scary to think what Selanne can accomplish with a premier centerman and complementary wing in Vincent Damphousse and Owen Nolan. Is a natural right wing, but can play the off wing as well. Will probably see time at left wing when Darryl Sutter wants to stack his 1st line.
