| HISTORY |
Mark was the Sharks
9th round pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft after playing three seasons at
Lethbridge (OHL), where he served as the team captain in 1997-98. In that
season he scored 109 points, which was 6th in the league.
Had solid
numbers in his first season at Kentucky, including 9 points in 12 games during
the Thoroughblades '99 playoff run.
Earned a roster spot for the
2000-01 season after a gritty training camp and a solid second season with the
Sharks affiliate in Kentucky the prior season. Smith experienced both the ups
and downs of being aprofessional athlete during his first NHL season. He
suffered a concussion early in the season, was sent down to Kentucky after 17
games, then was recalled to play in 42 games.
Made his NHL debut against
the St Louis Blues on October 6th, 2000.
